One team bats and tries to score as many points or runs as possible. The other team rolls the ball and lines up, trying to stop ('burn' or eliminate) the batsmen and thus limit their team's total runs. Then the roles are reversed. In professional cricket, the duration of the game ranges from two periods of twenty overs each, which end on the same day, to four periods of up to five days.

History of Cricket

Historical and literary records show that cricket dates back to the 16th century and that the first cricket games took place in the south of England. Records of world cricket matches date back to 1844, although there are no official documents indicating the exact date of the matches or the location of the matches. The expansion of the British Empire was the determining factor in the spread of the sport and from the middle of the 19th century the first international games began to take place.

However, there is a theory that the sport of cricket came from the ancient games of bat and ball. Keretizein: Two groups of players play "keratizein", holding curved sticks at one end, with which they direct the ball.

The name and rules of our game are unknown. According to Frederick A.G. Beck (Album of Greek Education. The Greeks at School and at Play, Sydney, 1975) the game is identified with the "passe boule", where each player marks in order to pass the ball through the hole in the board, while the second player waits for the ball behind the goal.

Moving on to a more practical level, a cricket match can take place in two different venues: either indoor cricket or outdoor cricket. Also, as mentioned above, cricket after the 18th century underwent great development and spread to many countries around the world through the English colonies.

Today, it is played professionally in Pakistan, India, Australia, West Indies, South Africa, Great Britain, Canada, Zimbabwe, Sri Lanka, etc., as well as in 53 European countries, which means that it is played in a geographical area that hosts more than half the earth's population.

In Greece, cricket makes its historic appearance for the first time on the island of Corfu, which was under English occupation, on April 23, 1823 with a game between the officers of the British Navy. The game of cricket enticed and aroused the interest not only of the teenagers of Corfu, but also of the adults, who with the willingness and help of the English officers I was taught and learned how to play cricket. After the departure of the English in 1864 from Corfu and the union of the Ionian Islands with Greece, local teams and associations began to be created which evolved and were maintained over time until today, perpetuating the sport of cricke
